Cyanotypes

Join Milena for a hands-on Cyanotype workshop to discover the fascinating process of creating beautiful blueprints!

Cyanotypes workshopCyanotype workshops are a privileged moment to discover the magic of an ancient photographic process while sharing a moment of connection to some precious elements, plants and wildflowers, the sun to burn and print your creations, the water that cleans the residues, and the air that magically reveals the bluest of blues.

Cyanotype is a captivating photographic process with a rich history. It involves using sunlight to create unique blue-toned images. To make a cyanotype, you place objects or images on specially treated paper and let them bask in UV- rays. The light triggers a chemical reaction, transforming the paper into shades of blue, ranging from pale to deep azure. After a gentle rinse in water, the image emerges as a striking and elegant composition. Artists and photographers have cherished this process for its ability to capture the essence of nature and produce timeless, ethereal images. Engineers have been using this for decades to reproduce technical drawings or “Blueprints”.

As an introduction on cyanotype art, this workshop will show you the process of making blueprints, prepping the substrates, and understanding shadow, light, and composition. You will also have a chance to learn about the history and concepts of the Cyanotype. We will experiment with many ideas, objects, light, and chemistry. You will create 3-4 practice pieces and 1 final piece.

Who is this for: This workshop is designed for those who are interested in learning a new artistic skill. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced artist, this simple and surprising art form will amaze you.
