4 Weeks to Watercolor with Confidence

Join us for a four-week journey into watercolor painting — from landscapes to florals to still life.
Level: beginner
Ages: 8 and up
Watercolor has a way of surprising you. One moment you’re not sure what you’re doing, and the next, a wash of colour is blooming across the page in a way that feels almost effortless. This four-week course gives you the time and the tools to get there — gently, at your own pace, with an instructor who meets you exactly where you are.
Over four Wednesday evenings, you’ll build a real foundation in watercolor painting: how to control water and pigment, how to layer transparently, how to mix colour with confidence, and how to compose a painting you’re genuinely proud of. Each week focuses on a different subject — landscapes, brushwork, florals, and still life — so by the end of the course, you’ll have explored a range of styles and techniques, and you’ll have four finished paintings to take home.

Who Is This For?
This course is designed for beginners — no experience with watercolor (or any painting medium) required. Open to ages 8 and up. Kids, teens, and adults all thrive in this environment; Palak adjusts her guidance to meet each student’s age and level, so everyone moves forward together.
The Studio Experience
This course takes place at Palak StudioInk — a welcoming studio space where creativity feels right at home. Class size is intentionally kept small so that every student receives focused, personalized guidance throughout the course.
Course Schedule
- Week 1 — Landscapes: Learning the Basics (May 6) You’ll get acquainted with your materials and dive straight into painting. Using wet-on-wet washes, you’ll build skies, create depth, and learn how water controls everything in watercolor.
- Week 2 — Precision & Brushwork (May 13) With the basics in hand, it’s time to build control. This session focuses on brush pressure, stroke variety, and the difference between a sharp edge and a soft one — the skills that give a painting life.
- Week 3 — Flowers: Softness & Colour (May 20) You’ll work with the wet-on-dry technique to paint floral compositions, building petals with transparent layers and learning how to create the kind of colour transitions that look effortless.
- Week 4 — Fruits & Still Life: Bringing It All Together (May 27) The final session draws on everything you’ve learned. Using light, shadow, and texture, you’ll paint a still life composition that brings all four weeks together into a finished, polished piece.
*Please note: if you miss a session, a recorded tutorial of that week’s lesson will be shared so you can continue at home. Make-up sessions are not available, as each week builds directly on the previous one.
About the instructor: Palak Dhorajiya is a self-taught artist who reignited her passion for creativity during the pandemic. Originally from India, she balanced art with her studies. After moving to Calgary for a career in Interior Design, she temporarily set aside her artistic pursuits. However, discovering alcohol inks during the pandemic reignited her love for creating. Inspired by her mother and art tutor, she began crafting original pieces and teaching others. Palak offers custom artwork and art classes, providing a creative space to transform ideas into beautiful art.
