8 Weeks to Sketching with Confidence

See It. Sketch It. Master It.
Level: beginner
Ages: 10 and up
This eight-week course is designed to help you build strong foundational drawing skills while developing your creative confidence. By bridging the gap between observation and execution, you will learn to capture the world around you with both accuracy and expressive flair.

The Foundations of Drawing
Through hands-on, guided exercises, you will explore professional shading techniques and gain a deeper understanding of how light affects objects. You will learn to observe and draw essential physical attributes—such as form, proportion, texture, tone, and pattern—which are essential for creating accurate and expressive sketches.
To bring depth and dimension to your work, the course introduces three key technical concepts:
- Negative Space: Understanding the shapes between and around objects.
- Perspective: Mastering both one-point and atmospheric perspective.
- Composition & Space: Gaining a clearer understanding of how to frame and organize a visual field.
The Studio Experience
The curriculum balances precision with pace. You will practice drawing detailed still-life subjects and participate in timed sketching exercises. These drills are designed to improve your efficiency, helping you learn to identify key elements, frame compositions, and communicate ideas visually within a limited timeframe. By the end of the course, you will have stronger observation skills and better technical control.
Who Is This For?
This course is recommended for kids ages 10+ and adults. All levels are welcome, from total beginners to those looking to refine their existing technique. All professional sketching supplies are included, so you just need to bring yourself and an openness to learn.

About the instructor: Palak Dhorajiya is a self-taught artist who reignited her passion for creativity during the pandemic. Originally from India, she balanced art with her studies. After moving to Calgary for a career in Interior Design, she temporarily set aside her artistic pursuits. However, discovering alcohol inks during the pandemic reignited her love for creating. Inspired by her mother and art tutor, she began crafting original pieces and teaching others. Palak offers custom artwork and art classes, providing a creative space to transform ideas into beautiful art.
