In this hands-on art workshop, you’ll explore the expressive world of mixed media art: painting, layering, and experimenting with a variety of materials to create a finished piece that reflects your own creative voice. No formulas, no recreating someone else’s work. Just a motif that resonates with you, a table full of interesting materials, and the freedom to see where it all goes.
The session kicks off with a short intro to mixed media art, the materials you’ll be working with, and a few inspiring examples to get your imagination going. You will be guided to dive straight in with color to set the mood for your piece — then choose your motif from stencils or simple reference images like birds, butterflies, trees, or mountains, sketch and paint your main image, and layer and experiment with materials like string, pastels, markers, newsprint, and watercolor to add depth and texture.

Hosted in the ambient space of the Marriott Residence Inn in downtown Calgary, this workshop offers a unique setting for artistic exploration.
