Press clay, place mirrors, and craft a pair of handmade holiday ornaments rooted in an ancient artistic tradition.

Level: beginner
Ages: 8 and up

The holidays are a little more meaningful when something on your tree was made by your own hands. In this festive edition of our Lippan Art workshop, you’ll draw on the ancient folk traditions of Kutch, Gujarat — raised clay patterns, glinting mirrored glass, and the quiet satisfaction of making something beautiful from scratch.

Over approximately two hours, you’ll create a set of two Lippan art ornaments from start to finish: planning your designs, shaping and applying clay, setting mirrors into the surface, and finishing each piece. Every step is guided, every technique is explained clearly, and there’s plenty of room to make them your own. Whether you keep them or gift them, these are ornaments that will stand out on any tree.
