Lippan Art: Clay, Mirrors & Culture

Date:
July 4, 2026
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Where:
Marriott Residence Inn Calgary Downtown
610 10 Ave SW, Calgary, AB, T2R 1M3
Price:
CAD 58.00 - CAD 150.00

Press clay, place mirrors, and discover a centuries-old creative tradition.

Level: beginner
Ages: 6 and up

Lippan art is one of those crafts that draws you in the moment you see it — raised clay patterns, the warm glint of mirrored glass, the unmistakable texture of something made entirely by hand. Rooted in the folk traditions of Kutch, Gujarat, this ancient craft has adorned the walls of homes and community spaces for generations. In this workshop, you’ll bring that tradition into your own hands.

Over approximately two hours, you’ll work through the full process from start to finish: planning your design, shaping and applying clay, setting mirrors into the surface, and finishing your piece. Every step is guided, every technique is explained clearly, and there’s plenty of room to make it your own along the way.

At the end of the session, you will have a completed handmade Lippan art piece to take home!
